These deposits pose significant near well reservoir problems, often choking flow pathways and leading to drastic production declines, sometimes as high as 95%.
Asphaltene-related issues are particularly pervasive in key U.S. oil-producing regions, including Texas, Louisiana, Alaska, and California, where an estimated 30,000+ Wells are affected.
